One of the oldest cities in Uttar Pradesh and specifically famous for its part in the 1857 revolt, Jhansi is home to many archaeological sites and monuments. However, issues concerning CHM still include a lack of funds, lacunae in infrastructure, and a near absence of community engagement. Even the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Policy 2018, in addition to the Bundelkhand Tourism Development Programme, heritage management in Jhansi remains in its embryonic stage.
This research paper insists on an inclusive approach to CHM in Jhansi a balanced engagement of local communities, modern knowledge, and sustainable practices. There is also an urgent need for more public-private partnerships and a resultant much higher level of local engagement for better and sustained preservation. Education, research, and flagship programs such as the Chief Minister Fellowship Programme may be of help by developing capacity to adopt new solutions, including digital tools for the betterment and accessibility management. Sustainable tourism, along with proper CHM, can present the means by which Jhansi conserves its rich heritage while it also promotes economic growth. Such an approach would result in achieving a balance between preservation and development as a way to open the rich heritage of Jhansi for future generations.
