The article examines the distribution of water in the Amu Darya and Syr Darya basins, its social, economic, and political consequences, as well as the trends of conflict and cooperation in water policy after independence. The study analyzes historical sources, contemporary political documents, and evaluates historical experiences of sustainable water resource use.
