Abstract

This article provides a scientific analysis of the historical roots of water resources use and transboundary policy in Central Asia. The period covered is from the irrigation systems of the ancient Bactrian, Khorezmian, and Sogdian civilizations to the centralized water management system of the Soviet era. The article examines the distribution of water in the Amu Darya and Syr Darya basins, its social, economic, and political consequences, as well as the trends of conflict and cooperation in water policy after independence. The study analyzes historical sources, contemporary political documents, and evaluates historical experiences of sustainable water resource use.
