Project-Based Language Learning (PBLL) has emerged as an innovative pedagogical approach that promotes authentic learning, student engagement, and the development of twenty-first-century competencies. Despite extensive research on PBLL, limited studies have systematically compared the learning paradigms that underpin its effectiveness. This study aims to examine PBLL through the comparative perspectives of Deep Learning, Meaningful Learning, and Joyful Learning and to explore their contributions to language learning and competency development. Employing a qualitative library research design and a comparative conceptual literature review approach, the study analyzed scholarly literature published between 2020 and 2025 concerning PBLL, Deep Learning, Meaningful Learning, Joyful Learning, and twenty-first-century education. The findings indicate that Deep Learning strengthens cognitive engagement through critical thinking, inquiry, reflection, and knowledge transfer. Meaningful Learning enhances knowledge construction by connecting new information with prior experiences and authentic contexts. Joyful Learning promotes emotional engagement, intrinsic motivation, curiosity, and sustained participation. The analysis further reveals that no single paradigm sufficiently explains PBLL effectiveness. Therefore, this study proposes an Integrated PBLL Framework that combines cognitive, constructive, and affective dimensions into a holistic model for project-based language learning. The framework demonstrates that the integration of Deep Learning, Meaningful Learning, and Joyful Learning can support language acquisition while fostering critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, adaptability, and lifelong learning. The study contributes a novel conceptual perspective for understanding PBLL and offers practical implications for designing more holistic learning environments.
