Abstract

During the 16th and 19th centuries, the Russian Empire invaded the territories (Volga region, Crimea, Caucasus, Turkestan) which were inhabited by Turkic peoples. The Turkic peoples under Russian colonization were economically and culturally far behind. The Turkic peoples in the territory of the Russian Empire fought for their liberation from colonial oppression through enlightenment. This path, founded by Ismail Gasprinsky, has historically been called the Jadid movement. The Turkic peoples of the Russian Empire united in the Jadid movement. Their struggle for national liberation was reflected in such cooperation as the reform of the education system (the establishment of new methodological schools), the formation of the national press and printing, the emergence of national drama.
