The European Union’s dependence on Russia energy has long been a critical concern for its energy security, particularly following the 2014 Russia-Ukraine crisis and the resulting geopolitical tensions. This paper has explored the EU’s energy diversification strategy within the broader context of the New Great Game in Eurasia, focusing on the challenges, opportunities and strategic implications arising from evolving energy dynamics. This study has adopted qualitative research design based on secondary sources. The findings of the study indicated that diversification has increased the EU’s energy resilience and reduced dependence on Russia energy supplies, while simultaneously reshaping geopolitical relations across Eurasia. The study also highlights the growing strategic significance of Central Asia and the increasing influence of China in regional energy politics. The study concluded that although diversification presents economic and geopolitical challenges, it strengthens the EU’s long-term energy security and strategic autonomy in an increasingly competitive Eurasian energy landscape.
